Knowing your Partnering Quotient and the attributes necessary for managing a partnership is only half of what you need for increasing your Partnering Intelligence. The other half is understanding the process of creating healthy, trusting, and mutually beneficial partnerships.

Partnerships don't just happen. They are designed. The Partnership Continuum Model is the blueprint for creating successful partnerships. This model offers you and your partner a tested step-by-step approach to developing your partnership. By following the model, both partners will increase their Partnering Intelligence.

The model includes four basic components:

  • The Stages of Partnership Development
  • The Stages of Relationship Development
  • Past/Future Orientation
  • The Plan-Do-Check-Act Cycle

The Partnership Continuum Model helps partners develop common ground as they work through the components and stages of the model. The model is a major component of our consulting services, corporate training programs, and leadership development programs. It has helped some of the worlds largest businesses and governmental agencies build award-winning alliances.

We can describe the process developmentally - as in, after this happens, this can happen. The Partnership Continuum Model guides us through the incremental stages involved in creating successful partnerships.

The Four Components of Partnering

(1) Stages of Relationship Development - Using your Partnering Intelligence (PQ) to build trust and mutual benefits into the partnership. This component describes how healthy, mutually satisfying relationships develop, as well as the impact of outside forces and influences.

(2) Stages of Partnership Development - Using a partnering process that enables you to systemically identify, plan and implement the tasks to accomplish your objectives. This component describes stages from finding potential partners to building a new future together.

(3) Past / Future Orientation - Transitioning the environment and culture of the partnership from focused on the past to one that plans for the future.

(4) Plan-Do-Check-Act Cycle - Using a scientific approach to continuously improve the outcome of your partnering activities - both task and relationship.
